NICE HOTEL BUT STAFF ARE NOT FIVE STAR
We arrived at 14.15, check in was anythime after 14.00. On arrival we were told that our room was not ready and maybe we should "take a walk". After travelling since 4.30 that morning we really wanted to get into our room and freshen up. Anyway we went to a local cafe for a coffee and bite to eat. We returned at 15.15 and were taken to our room, it had 2 single beds, I told them we had booked a double bed and they said they would check. We returned to the reception and one of the female staff members was quite rude and had a bad attitude, a male member of staff was standing there and said nothing, turned out he was the General Manager. I asked him if that was the way staff spoke to guests, he became defensive. So on arrival we were not impressed as it is billed as 5 star. They moved us the next day to a room with a double bed, we just packed and went out and they did the move. Note also not all rooms have a bathtub, for 5 star I dont think thats too good either. The rest of the stay was great, the rest of the staff are fine just this one girl with the bad attitude, we just avoided asking her anything. The hotel is very nice, the staff at breakfast are really nice and its in a great location, very central for all the sights, you can walk everywhere, Florence iitself is fantastic and a joy to visit. Due to the problem on arrival and the initial room if we went back we would probably look for somewhere else.
All of the main attractions are very close to the hotel, make sure you go to the Piazza della Signoria in the evening, we had a meal there and an orchestra were playing outside in the square.

Outstanding location, comfort and service
We went to Florence to celebrate my wifes birthday. She was extremely pleased with the trip in general and the hotel in particular. The hotel is very conveniently located for the main sights in Florence but car access is very complicated, even with a navigation system. It would be helpful if the website provided a detailed map for vehicle access. The hotel is brand new and generally in very good condition and both the room and common areas were very comfortable. The bathroom was extremely well equipped with plenty of towels and bath materials. Best features were the very powerful overhead shower and aset of very sophisticated weighing scales. Service attitude was outstanding especially at the front desk. The front desk staff noticed from from the passport that it was my wifes birthday and made a special room delivery of champagne and exotic fruit to help us celebrate. They also made an excellent restaurant recommendation. The porters, breakfast staff and bar staff were similarly friendly and attentive. Breakfasts were sumptuous with prompt and excellent service. Two minor niggles: - the plugs in the both the bathroom basins failed to close properly and despite requests to the staff this issue was not addressed during our three day stay. - the wellness are is quite remote from the bedrooms and requires the use two elevators and a short walk through public areas in beetween. Overall our stay at the Golden Tower Hotel was an outstanding experience. Highly recommended.

Great Hotel!
This hotel is a very nice and comfortable one - I believe either recently renovated or opened - but it definitely showed - very comfortable and very nice. Super friendly staff, clean room, great shower, comfy bed, great lobby that included free wireless when I needed to do some work. Would absolutely recommend and stay again. Its also a great location - 2 blocks from Piazza de Repubblica but on a quiet side street. It is of course hot in Italy in August and AC in room worked just fine but electric in room only comes on when you insert room key in slot -- one night it took a bit to cool down after I came in from dinner but really no big deal - it was comfortable in time for sleeping.
Traveller's tip on dining
I had an outstanding lunch at Hotel Savoys restaurant which is 2 blocks away. And a fantastic dinner at Oesteria dell Olio recommended by the front desk - alos just a few blocks away. Not inexpensive meals but 2 of the best meals I had during my 2 week trip to Italy.
