Good inexpensive choice near Messeplatz
This hotel has nice features like a great buffet breakfast and an outdoor patio/sitting area between two wings of the hotel, plus is very conveniently located to the tram stop at Messeplatz etc.

great hotel
The staff at this hotel was wonderful. Very helpful from the moment we checked in. I left my wallet at the front desk after checking out and realized a couple hours later that I lost it somewhere. When I inquired at the front desk they unlocked a drawer and returned it to me with money, cards in tact. Excellent transportation and location of this hotel. The tram left from the front of the hotel to take you to the old part of the city.

Hotel breakfast
As we checked in we have been told that there is an extensive breakfast buffet in the official dining room. Quiet honestly that was true, but once i checked out they charged me for an additional $54 ($27 per person) for breakfast. Never during the whole check in has been mentioned, that there will be an extra charge for the breakfast. For this amount of money i could have had lunch for an other day in Basel. Ruined my day in Basel completely.
