Nicer than expected, across from Railroad station
Very nice room. Older, elegant hotel perfectly located for train travelers. Excellent restaurants nearby.

Fading elegance but value for money
Location is very convenient although some shabby streets behind the hotel and some dubious characters hang around the station opposite. Hotel lobby is very grand and makes you feel like you have arrived. Staff formal but pretty welcoming. Have stayed several times. The rooms are all different but often quite big. They are all a bit old fashioned and the plumbing quirky. I also find the room lighting a bit dark. Booking ahead I always got a good price so I didnt mind going back.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Walk round the outer Alster lake on a nice day and imagine living in one of the beautiful villas. Go to the model railways in Speicherstadt on a rainy day. Its not about the trains - its spotting what the thousands of model characters are up to. Every who goes thinks its fab.

Convenient
This is an older hotel. Room is fine, not too small. The location is convenient (next to train station and subway) but at night it isn’t the greatest neighborhood.
