nice place
The hotel was nice and neat and the staff was friendly. However, the lack of elevators was difficult to deal with at times. 10-15 minute waits for elevator.

Comfortable and well situated Hotel
We enjoyed our stay at The James. The Hotel was in a prime location for accessing all central facilities in the city. One block from Michigan Avenue and easy walking distance from Navy Pier etc. Surrounded by good places to eat and prime shopping. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well maintained and clean. One small niggle was the water in the room. This is complimentary in most hotels but is part of the mini bar in The James. There is nothing to let you know this and could catch unwary travellers out,
Traveller's tip
The airport is quite a distance from the city and a taxi can prove a little expensive. The Go Express shuttle was a good investment. It supplied door to door transport by mini bus (shared)

Look forward to returning to this gem of a hotel
From the moment we arrived at this lovely boutique hotel every aspect of our stay from check in to the homemade cookies offered on turndown to the bathroom products was exemplary. The overall design of this superbly located hotel is cool and trendy. The bar is popular and buzzy, the restaurant can be boastful of their chef. The overall concept is clean in its choice of lines, contemporary in its choice of music & art (love the stacked luggage in the lobby), and for some might be considered somewhat minimalist, however there is nothing uncomfortable or cold about this property...they even have a dogs water bowl and tin of doggy cookies outside on the street for anyone passing by with their pet! Very cute feature. My room had a stylish contemporary designed chaise-longue chair. The beds were dream inducing, and the power in the showers great. All that being said I am sure that my positive experience probably had more to do with the warmth of the staff - professional and efficient, natural, attentive and friendly. Well done to you all.
