Como Gem

Albergo Terminus was the perfect place to stay on a recent visit to Como. Its ideally located across from the lake and the rapidos that will take you to Bellagio and other waterfont towns . Its a 3 minute walk from the hotel to the funiculare that takes you up to Brunante for a fabulous view across the valley (a great place for an afternoon cocktail); and within easy walking distance of many restaurants as well as the train station. The staff was friendly and eager to help, the breakfast buffet included with our room offered numerous delicious choices and the room was elegant, clean and comfortable with a small balcony that was a wonderful surprise.

Best Hotel in Como

We’ve stayed at a few of Como’s hotels, and the Terminus is the superior option. Not massively expensive, small but very comfortable rooms, great bathrooms and a very pleasant breakfast offering on a peaceful al fresco terrace. (Although the coffee is quite abysmal.) We had dinner in the Terme restaurant and the food and service were excellent, I had to send a bottle of wine back and the staff couldn’t have dealt with it better. The next time we visit Como, we will stay at the Terminus again

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Getting to Como from Malpensa Airport is 100 euros and 45 minutes by taxi, so take the train. Trains from terminal 1 to Como (changing trains at Sarranno) couldn’t be easier. takes about 75 minutes and costs 9 euros each. Terminus hotel is a 3 minute walk from Como Lago Station.

worth upgrading to deluxe room; refurbished, good furniture, flat screen tv and great shower. Huge bed!

If you take ferry to Bellagio may want to come back on hydrofoil as return journey seems endless especially when hot. Also, our ferry had no refreshments so worth taking with you

Extremely handy location for everything Como has to offer.

Only drawer back is noise from the Cathedral which starts every morning at 7.15AM, otherwise lovely hotel with a very generous breakfast. Extremely freindly staff who all speak very good English.

Convenient but noisy

Only 50 yards from rail station and on the front looking directly at Lake Como. Hotel was nicely styled, good ambiance, positively elegant and provided a good breakfast. Our room however was rather small and over the kitchen where they ejected bottles into bins at 6.45 am every morning. Good early morning call but we did not need it. Also rather pricey - internet costs 10 euros/hour and the sauna is 40 euro each use!

Very good location

My wife and I made our 1st visit to Como for a 3 night stay after Easter 2009. The hotel is in a very good location within immediate walking distance to the ferries, train station, shops, restaurants and bars. We used the ferries to visit some very scenic spots on the lake and also had a hire car which was useful but not actually necessary (especially given the high cost of parking at the hotel).

Try restaurant L’antica Riva in Como. A little expensive but very good food if you’re looking for a special meal. If you visit Belaggio (very quaint village) DON’T go into one of the 1st restaurants as you leave the ferry as they are a bit of a rip-off. Wander up the alleyways and you’ll find more affordable restaurants.

Very nice, but expensive, small hotel on Lake Como

I would characterize this property as a boutique hotel. The location is excellent, just steps from a train station serving Milan and points in between. It’s also just across the street from the lake and ferry/tour boats. The service and included breakfast were excellent. However, the main dining room for dinner is very small. Although the room is quite romantic, beware, as the maitre d’ is unfriendly and quite full of himself. The food at dinner, like the maitre d’, is also just average... nothing special. In summary, a very convenient, pleasant hotel. Just don’t eat dinner there.

Excellent location, beautiful hotel, great breakfast

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Albergo Terminus. It is located right across the street from the Como Ferry, a block away from Station Nord, and a 10 minute Walk from Como S. Giovanni. I had a single room facing the back, which had a beautiful view of the nearby chapel, as it was on the 4th floor. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Also, the croissants and breakfast were delicious & there was a good variety of breakfast assortments. Note that if you choose the 4 hr Internet for 15 euros, it is consecutive (not cumulative). The Wifi options are: 30 min, 5 Euro; 1 hr, 10 Euro; 4 hrs, 15 Euros; and 20 (or more) Euros for 24 hours.

A great day trip: I took the 1 hr ferry to Bellagio at 8:30 AM then the 11:30 10 min ferry to Menaggio where I caught the 12:30 PM (?) bus #73 to Beglia to hike up past Refugio Menaggio to the top of Mt. Grona (4.5 hrs RT from Beglia.) Then catch the 6 pm (?) bus to Menaggio & then the 7 pm (?) ferry to Como. The views on this hike are spectacular & the Refugio has hot meals as well as a water fountain.

Great hotel

Fantasic location on the lake, close to train station. Friendly staff and clean comfortable room (although a little dated). Breakfast served till 11am is good for lazy peple like me, but for 4 stars it is dissapointing when you have no hot food options. Overall though, would recommend.

Fantastic location!

A beautiful hotel in a great location. Quite expensive (we stayed in the high season) and the room was a little smaller than i expected (we booked the deluxe double) - a bit narrow - although bathroom was very spacious and had a huge walk in robe. View of the water (although on a bit of an angle) and fantastic breakfast. Great service from staff at front desk.

The location is lovely and the hotel is nice and clean. I would recommend this hotel.

Good Value

Well located within walking distance of major attractions such as the Funicolare and a boat trip on Lake Como. Staff are friendly and the buffet breakfast included in the room price is very adequate Only complaint is the parking at $33 per day and the lack of free Internet access .

Osteria del Gallo Via Vitiana. Good food reasonably priced. Italian is a must. Owners very nice. Foreign language newspapers available on the corner of the Piazza Cavour 3 minutes walk from the hotel.

Nice, Smaller Hotel along the Lake in Como

I enjoyed this hotel, it is a bit smaller then the others that line the lake. Nice service, and has a great feeling of history. On the downside, the place was overhauled in the 80s and has a sort of bad 80’s deco vibe layered over the original deco details. Also we did not shell out extra for the lake view, so we got an alley view instead. Great location, easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants in the town of Como.

Check out the Osteria del Gallo for lunch or an early dinner. A far cry from the touristed cafes on the lake and the piazzas, this is a small place, all inside, with simple and inexpensive home cooking. Fresh and wonderful food. Know some Italian as they don’t speak English.

Staff had bad attitude

Just got back from this hotel, and I have to say how dissapointed I am. I have been to Como many times before and stayed at Vill D’Este and Castello di Casaligio, which were both amazing hotels. This hotel was well under par, rude and unhelpful staff, bad service and they tried to over charge us on our room bill. Would not reccomend you stay here, it gives a bad impression of a wonderful location.

Good hotel in great location. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room comfortable and well looked after. Parking is dear at 20 euro per day and little alternative locally.

Avoid Como as a base if looking for a watersports/lakeside break. Head further up the lake.

This hotel is in a good location right on te side of lake - access to other parts of Lake Como is easy from here. Hotel offer a good breakfast in a nice setting.
