very nice personal hotel

Thoroughly enjoyed our three days. Nice room, well apppointed. Oustanding staff. Generous breakfast. Extremely quiet although soundproofing from next room not great. Personally I like a kettle in the room but that may not be the Italian tradition. Well located for walking everywhere. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Great hotel; owner is friendly and accomodating, very charming

Great hotel on multiple fronts. Quick summary: What we loved: charming rooms, kind decision of front desk to upgrade room, cute breakfast sitting area, charming layout, very clean rooms, no noise passing through walls, cable TV, Internet, well-appointed simple room, and friendly staff. Espresso, juice, and fruit in the morning Improvement Areas (just being picky) - Mostly Breakfast. Here’s the granular feedback: Breakfast croissants that weren’t sweet didn’t seem as fresh & hot as I expected having stayed at a few other hotels including the St. Regis on our Italy trip, having some more egg options besides a dish of lukewarm scrambled eggs would have been nice, the breakfast staff was pleasant enough but not as friendly as the rest of the staff, it would be nice if breakfast went on for 30 more min every morning for late sleepers.

Traveller's tip

The restaurant, gelato, and general suggestions by the hotel staff were very strong. I’m sure they’re recommending places they’re "close" to but it didn’t matter since the food was very good and staff friendly at all restaurants. The B&B staff was very helpful at Porta San Mamolo. I will definitely try to return to Bologna and stay here.

Wonderful find...when we found it.

This is a beautiful little place a few minutes away from the center of Bologna. Lovely garden courtyard and comfy rooms with large bathroom. I do want to rewrite the hotel’s directions. We took the bus to the stop they recommended and then were befuddled...even though the hotel was only 3 minutes away. Their entrance is tucked in an alley so get very specific, point to point directions, otherwise you can wander forever. Only other complaint -- we wanted a great dinner in a really top restaurant. Man at the desk that night recommended a place at the end of the block. It was a cheaper place with flourescent lighting and plastic tablecloths. We got our great meal in Bologna after wandering another several blocks, but wished the man at the desk had offered quality recommendation rather than shunt us off to restaurant of a friend that might have had good food but terrible ambience.
