Yikes, stay away from this hotel

Based on the other reviews of the Sunset Inn, i thought it would be a quaint if not fully modern motel on the old route 66. We are sort of adventurous and don’t mind a place that is a little run down, as long as it is clean and safe. We were coming home to NM from Big Sur, CA, and Barstow was just about our only choice of where to stop for the night. The Sunset Inn was a pretty scary place to spend the night. There were lots of people hanging out in the parking lot when we arrived presumably either selling or taking drugs. My husband saw a prostitute in front of the motel when he went back out to get our bags. The deadbolt on the door to our room was broken so we could lock the door only on the handle. Nothing bad happened during our stay, but the inside of the room was very dirty. The carpet was filthy, and the blanket on the bed was really stained and dirty on the side that was supposed to be white. We had our own bedding with us since we had been camping, and were very thankful that we didn’t have to use the gross blankets and pillows on the bed. i would definitely NOT stay here alone as a woman. It is in a bad neighborhood (we were also woken up by police sirens throughout the night). It is dirty. And the "free wireless internet" is also broken. I know the options in Barstow are slim, but stay some place else.

Really too expensive for the service provided

There is no daily room clean-up (is it really a 2 star hotel?), no microwave oven and no refrigerator as indicated in the hotel description...The room was recently painted, but doors and furniture were really dirty. And the bathroom equipment was too basic...No, really, we did not appreciate our stay in this hotel, and don’t recommend it to anyone.

poor quality

The sheets were dirty, hair in the sink and tub, and the room was in need of repair. The add said there was a continental breakfast. There wasn’t, and if there had been I would have been afraid to eat it. The shower head was about 4 feet above the floor.
