Convenience vs. cost
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Kingston on my visit to London. I was very impressed with the modern aesthetics from the lobby to the actual room. They had very friendly service, but I had a room rate discrepancy on the last day. It was actually an error from hotels.com, but it was just a big mess. I was afraid of being charged twice. The lounge in the lobby feels very modern and hip without all the superficial people that usually accompany a property like this. The rooms were amazing, nice flat screens, marble countertops in the bathroom, nice light fixtures, comfortable bedding. Some of the cons I experienced was that although internet is free, you must call or visit the reception desk to obtain a new password each day. So this isnt very convenient if you are staying for more than a day. Also, this property is NOT in central London, so it takes about 45-60 mins on the train & tube if you decide to go that route. A typical routine for me was, take cab from hotel to overground train station, take overground train to underground train station. Each cab ride cost me about $10-11 USD. And the tube rides can cost you another $10 each day. Luckily for me, once I was on the underground tube, I purchased a weekly pass, and that cost me around $70 USD. So all in all, I got a cheaper & nicer hotel, but I was far away from the city. It all depends on what matters more to you. In the end, I feel like I could have stayed in central London and paid higher hotel fees but lower transportation costs. I hope this review helps someone. There is SO much to see in London, and one week is barely enough time. If youre going to watch a show, be aware that Sunday is dark and only about three shows play that day.
