not impressed at all

I was travelling on my own and was given a room on the top floor. It rained very hard during the night and sounded as if the rain was coming into the room. There were several damp patches on the ceiling. The light above the bed didn’t work and looked as if it wasn’t connected to anything. The room was therefore very dark and depressing. To have enough light to read I had to turn on the bathroom light which also turned on the dehumidifier making a very loud noise. There was no lid on the toilet cistern and wires sticking out of the wall. This all led to an overall seedy and depressing feel to the hotel. It is generally not well kept and the carpets are very dark and worn in parts. It is close to the centre of town but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you do go there try not to get a room on the top floor if it is raining!

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Cobh is definately worth a visit. So is Blarney. Even if you don’t want to kiss the stone the grounds are lovely.

Just Ok

The location was great. The hotel is ok and met it’s needs as far as a place to sleep and shower. The hot water wouldn’t last very long and the tv didn’t work in the room, however the bartender Chris was very accommodating by putting on the Tour of Ireland bike race on the TV’s both nights I stopped in for a pint. Alexandra was very pleasant and helpful.

Smelly Dirty Musty Room

Entered room to find old smell, partly of years of smoking, an old rotten carpet with moths flitting around it, a tiny TV with no remote and a bed but no seating; view from window - closed in area full of cigarettes and pigeons. Anyone walking past outside sounded like they were entering out room. If you want budget Cork, you got it.

Stay at the Maldron or at Jury’s Inn.
