Great Hotel and even better staff
We recently traveled to Koln bringing our daughter to attend college courses for one semester. The hotel Ambassador was a delightful quaint hotel with an even better staff. The room was clean and comfortable even with 3 persons. We enjoyed the international flair.

Very satisfactory
Room faced quiet back of hotel as requested at arrival. No view but noise of busy road avoided. Non-"large" rooms seem very small; I saw one or two when doors were open. Everything in hotel is fine and breakfast good and available till 11.00, much longer than most hotels of this type. However, ’broadband’ is very slow. I measured download speed at about 0.5 Mbps, and upload at maybe 150 kbps IIRC. The connection can be flaky; it dropped a few times in the middle of overnight backups (I was there 4 nights). Reception said they have a total of 18 Mbps bandwidth.

Basic but helpful and in good location
The front room we had was noisy as it overlooks the tram stop. Breakfast was excellent, the room smallish but clean and fresh. Only one lift which was slow at busy periods. Just 3 or 4 tramstops into town though. Desk staff very helpful.
Traveller's tip on dining
If you want to have a typical German meal try one of the Reissdorf Brauhaus in the streets behind the hotel. Great with the local Kolsch beer.
