Friendly hotel close to town center
Midas resort provides a clean and comfortable place to stay for the budget-minded traveller. There are a variety of accommodations - cabins, cabins, hotel rooms and a new facility being built with more guest rooms. The proximity to town makes it easy to get to the local restaurants and shops. Midas serves breakfast only, but there are plenty of choices very close by for other meals, snacks, etc. The staff at Midas are very personable and helpful. The owner / manager Mike is on-site and stays on top of any issues you might have. Maria (Mikes mother) is also very involved in the resort. Dorita (front desk manager) was very accommodating and quick in answering all of our questions by e-mail before we made our final booking. All staff were helpful with information about local restaurants, tours, etc. Thomas can take you on a night tour of the hotel property to look for wildlife if you are interested. Just ask any of the staff and they will arrange this for you. We would recommend this hotel if you have reasonable expectations and are looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay.
While you are in San Ignacio, visit the Iguana Conservation Project and hatchery at the San Ignacio hotel. For a modest admission fee, Eddie will take you on a tour to see the iguanas and explain the nature and purpose of their facilty. You can pose with the iguanas and have some great photographs taken.

Much better than expected
Having read some recent reviews criticizing this hotel,I was pleasantly surprised by the accomodation which was clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. More importantly I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the owners in providing useful information to maximize onjoyment of the area and in particular the fascinating Mayan sites. The security of the hotel was also reassuring and San Ignacio an excellent location for appreciating this rewarding area.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If you appreciate Mayan ruins this area has examples that like El Pilar and Caracol that have not succumbed to the problems created by mass tourism.San Ignacio is an ideal centre to benefit from the local area

You get what you pay for.
When I initially looked at the hotel, I thought it was too expensive. When I finally booked it, it was $20 cheaper per night, and I thought I was getting a deal. If I had paid full price, I would have been upset. There were lizard droppings all over the bed, and dead flies in the towels. The staff seemed unconcerned about the situation when I asked for new sheets and towels. They did eventually bring the sheets and towels later that night. The mosquitos were out of control, and there were no mosquito coils or netting, or any protection, really. There was hot water if you let the shower run for a while, and the location is pretty cool- especially if you have a car to get into the city. I didnt see the inside of the other lodgings in the area, but from the outside, Midas did seem cleaner and more secure.
