Excellent location ~ good facilities
This was a very well positioned hotel just tucked behind the main town ~ square ideal location. Receptionists were helpful and spoke good English. Attractive pool, although small and good facilities. Comfortable room + armchairs. Breakfast a little pricey and not included. Can highly recommend it for a city break
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Easy access to canal trips, shops, carriage rides, cafes, museums etc. All walking distance from hotel.

Better than expected
We were worried after we had booked here as we read some very bad reviews. We found reception staff welcoming and friendly. The room,a superior one on the ground floor, was comfortable and clean. We looked out on to trees/bushes and a wall. So what? How long do you spend in your room when you are on a sight seeing trip?! We left the window open during the day and at night and were not bitten. Valuables were secure in the digital safe The breakfast was perfectly adequate. For people who complain - what do you have at home? There were 2 varieties of cereal, yoghurts or milk, bacon and scrambled egg. For those eating "continental" there was meat, cheese, several varieties of bread and croissants as well as do it yourself toast and jams. Coffee, tea and fruitjuice was also available. The parrot in the hallway? My husband thought was delightful - I found it irritating. Ok,granted, the Belgian people could be a bit miserable, but whenever we initiated a greeting or conversation, we always found them friendly and welcoming. Try smiling - it seems to work!
Traveller's tip on dining
Take plenty of money! Beware of the all in priced menus. eg 15 or 19euro menu. It does not include vegetables. You will pay extra for these though we found that one portion between two people would have been adequate.

Great location, 2/3 star not 4 star
On arrival - first room allocated was non-smoking (which we requested) but it smelt strongly of cigarettes and was a really dark unwelcoming room. So we changed to a room that was basic but ok. Definitely not a 4 star property. Location great. Staff not very helpful. If you have a fear of birds - avoid - as they have a parrot in a cage which is often let out in reception.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Highlight of the trip - Quasimundo bike tours - excellent fun, all levels, really informative and passionate guide. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
