A Little Style in Cork

We stayed at this hotel and got a great deal with Expedia. Not sure I would have been too impressed to pay the hotel’s usual rates, but the discount we got through Expedia made our stay great value for money. The hotel has great character, and all the staff were really friendly. It’s only a five minute walk to the main centre of Cork, so it’s a great location. It has a friendly resident’s bar, but there are other bars on the same street with great atmosphere. Try the Cork Arms if you like a more traditional atmosphere, but look no further than Shelbourne’s for a cracking night out. Would definitely stay again.

"Not impressed"

Stayed recently in this large hotel on a business trip. I booked a single room and was allocated what they called a double room. The bed was against the wall and could only be accessed on one side. This is an old hotel, the rooms have high ceilings, and the entrance doors mahogany. However, the decor of the rooms did not match in. Jazzy curtains, cheap beech effect furniture and a busy pattern carpet which together with the definite slope in the floor made me dizzy. The buffet breakfast was ok. no crossants, sweetened orange drink, individual yoghurts not available. The hotel was not busy and they should really upgrade guests when the rooms are available. I would not stay there again.

Very disappointed

Very disappointed considering the refurbishment. Very small room and bathroom. Wobbly headboard under the window. Drafty double glazing. Very noisy. No wardrobe - just 6 hangers - tough when you are staying a week. Very clean. Indifferent staff - nobody said ’Good morning’ or ’Good evening’.
