Not impressed but location is good
The location is good but the hotel needs renovation. The room is clean and service is good.

disappointed
The hotel is located in a shabby neighborhood, and the condition is definitely not even for a single star.

You can do better
I read a few tepid reviews of this hotel before booking and decided that I would go for it anyway because it was cheap. I would recommend that future travelers listen to the reviews and hold out for something a little nicer, which should be possible without going up much in price. I stayed at the He Dong Hotel while backpacking in China, so I didnt go in with high demands. However, I was still a little disappointed by the experience. The hotel was hard to find and generally dark and slightly worn-looking. The staff was friendly, but some of them spoke no English at all, which could be a problem for many travelers. The bedroom I got was generally fine, though certainly not fancy or new-looking, but the pillows felt like beanbags and the bathroom smelled very musty. In-room internet worked alright (wired only, at least in my room, but that was okay). The air conditioner dripped water if I left it on for an hour or more, which was a mess and a hassle. None of the issues I ran into at the He Dong Hotel were huge, but in sum, I think most travelers can find a place that is a better fit. If youre traveling on the cheap, save your money and go to a hostel (there are great ones in Beijing!). If youre looking for a nice vacation spot, spend just a little more and get a place thats more convenient and comfortable.
