Dated, decor and bed bug bites! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
To say this is supposed to be a 4* hotel, the room looked like it hadnt been decorated since the place was built (Im guessing the 70s). The cheap and nasty side panel of the bath wasnt screwed on correctly and banged against the bath frame when ever the horrible draft from the wind outside came blew through my room. The curtains didnt fit the windows properly, and even with all the lights on in the room it was still dull and dingy. The bed was uncomfortable, with a duvet sized for a child. I also had severe bites on my legs after staying the first night! The restaurant was overpriced for the food they served, and there was a lack of fish dishes on the menu for being in Peterhead. The service was friendly but very slow. The wireless internet access charges were extortionate for a hotel with this rack rate, and the service was also slow and intermittent. The gym was very small and lacking most of the equipment I use, and several of the machines were in a state of disrepair. The gym was the main reason I chose this hotel, based on the above I really wish I hadnt.

Not Impressed
My colleague and myself were greeted by a very dark entrance from the road and car park, not conducive with a warm friendly feeling. It seems the majority of lights though present did not work. On check in we were directed to the lodge, an annex of the main hotel, the room i was allocated had a damp smell about it and on further inspection black mildew/mould was growing on the exterior wall by the window. The towels in the bathroom had a greasy smell about them as if they had been stored in the kitchens. We went to the bar area for our evening meal but promptly left and went into Peterhead once we saw the price of the food on the menu(also the lack of atmosphere didnt help). This hotel advertises itself on its signs as 4 star and charges a 4 star tariff but only gives a 2 star service. In summary, lack of maintenance and attention to detail lets this place down.
Traveller's tip on dining
The shining pearl restaurant in Peterhead does a good Chinese buffet meal for a tenner, to be recommended!
