Cost effective
The Inn at the Convention Center was very convenient for my meeting (at the Convention Center) and very convenient for access (via Max from the airport). It is an older hotel and a little shabby in appearance both inside and outside. The check in clerk and front desk people were very helpful and courteous - no other facilities (pool, restaurant etc.) but I was not interested in other facilities. It was considerably cheaper then the ’convention hotels’ for my meeting and so was a very good deal from my persepctive. Would certainly consider staying there again if attending another convention in Portland.

Great locaion...
This hotel is across the street from a MAX stop within the "fare less" transportation district in the city of Portland. The free hotel parking makes this even a better deal over any of the downtown hotels. This hotel has been scheduled for demolition at various times, this effects any major improvements but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The room costs vary dependent on what is happening at the Convention Center and Rose Garden. We have been regular guests for several years.
Wear good shoes, carry an umbrella and enjoy the light rail system of Portland

noisy, no amenities
Our keycards had to be renewed every day we were there. We asked for a nonsmoking king away from the train tracks. The desk clerk did not know which side of the hotel the train tracks were on and took a guess, apparently, because we ended up in a smoking room right above the train tracks. We had to go back down to the desk and change rooms, which ended up being a nonsmoking room, but still over the train tracks. We asked about the exercise facilities and they were "across the street" in the Red Lion (sister) hotel. Likewise, the swimming pool, restaurant, business center, were "across the street". I think we should have got a room "across the street".
Don’t get a car, the train system is excellent and free throughout the downtown area. From the airport to downtown, it is a couple bucks. Much cheaper than renting a car!
