Pullman Cologne

Good in some respects but disappointed

I expected great things from this hotel as I had read some very good reviews of it but was disappointed. Not worth the money. Let me say it is clean and some of the staff are very nice - one or two frosty reception staff beware. Our room was smallish and there was no information about room service which I assumed did not exist until several days into our stay. We did not get the promised bathrobes until I requested them five days into the holiday. One arrived in a poor state. No slippers! None of the usual toiletries often provided in quality hotels. Frugal supply of coffee and tea. One teabag on one occasion. The minibar was disappointing with no wine provided. On the good side the bed was very comfortable. The shower excellent. Breakfast cost 22 euros a time and was excellent but at that price you would expect it to be. The best was actually the restaurant on the top floor, open 5 nights a week. The chef was brilliant when we were there and the cost surprisingly low for such excellent quality. Whatever you do, don’t be tempted into the Italian restaurant opposite. It is such a rip-off and the food so ordinary at extraordinary prices. You have been warned! Lots of great places to eat, including a super cafe, Fromme, just around the corner for a super breakfast.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Cologne is expensive but there are lots to see and do. The chocolate museum is great for all ages and there’s more to it than you might think. Good restaurant with some choice cakes, as you might expect. On the other extreme the Gestapo museum is so well done in a very unstated way. Transport is slick as you expect in Germany. Very easy to find your way around except curiously at Cologne/Bonn airport which is a nightmare for tourists.

Best Hotel

The Pullman Cologne is the best hotel we have stayed in and we’ve stayed in a lot all over the world. The room are amazing, the beds are the most comfortable i’ve slept in, pillows are perfect. The shower is very nice and the fixtures are fittings are fab. Loved the flat screen tv too. The buffet Breakfast had the most choice i’ve ever seen and has something for everybody. The location is great, short walk from a metro U Bahn and only a few mins from the main shops. Would defo recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Cologne. The rates are very good for this standard of hotel.

Excellent Cologne Hotel

Excellent location, 10 minute walk to train station and down town Cologne. All staff members spoke excellent English. One of the best breakfast buffets in Germany. Close to many resturants and shopping. Large, comfortasle rooms.
