Nice, but in the middle of "nowhere"
Part One - San Pedro is a Port. Its not a resort. Even California residents will tell you, "It’s not California". We stayed at the Doubletree before our Cruise. The hotel was very nice. If you want nothing more than a place to stay before your cruise this may be an option. If you are looking for a little sightseeing, shopping, and walk on the beach, you may want to choose an area like Long Beach. The hotel sits on a cute marina and adjacent to what some might consider a beach area. Its probably about two miles to the "Port of Call", which unfortunately is not worth visiting. The Port of Call was designed in a New England theme to house shops and eateries to entertain everyone, specifically cruise passengers. Today it has an over-priced Mexican restaurant, some medium priced seafood eateries, and a few shops not worth the time. As for the town of San Pedro, well we walked everywhere only to find a couple drug stores and fast food restaurants that saw their better days.
Again, if you want a "room only" before your cruise, this may be an option.

Truly a 5 star hotel.
Beautifully decorated, sumptuous beds, and friendly, professional staff. The outdoor pool was clean and the surrounding area is very relaxing. Breakfast was served on the terrace and had generous portions. The hallways were a bit warm, but we chalked that up to the hotel saving a bit of the environment by not turning on the A/C in the halls. Room A/C was great. Cant wait to go there again. Highly recommend this hotel.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Ports of Call is just a small drive away, as well as the Queen Mary and Long Beach attractions.
