What you expect from a Novotel
Not the most glamourious hotel but clean and good service. Make sure that you get a good price and you’ll be happy. Not too far a walk from the city but a bit of a trek to the historic area or the castle so bring comfortable shoes. The bar is twice the price of a local cafe. The area seems to be pretty nice so would recommend walking there if you want a coffee or a beer.
Not a good city for a buggy. The pretty streets are cobbled and the castle is up a steep hill. If you have small kids drive or stay away.,

Highly recommended
Arrived at 11PM and the reception staff were very pleasent and joked. Advised us if we wanted a night cap that the bar would soon be closing. Room very clean and comfortable. Breakfast good. 3 of us stayed for 3 nights.The only downside was the €7 per glass of beer.

Fantastic experience with this hotel
The staff was fantastic at all levels, even to an almost-4-year old who is extremely busy. They took time out to give him extra attention and treated him like a guest and real person. They have a fantastic playground in a garden-setting, excellent restaurant and breakfast buffet, free SECURE parking. Only complaints are that it is NOT exactly right in the heart of downtown/centrum, but about a 5 minute drive, or 20 minute walk, or $7 taxi ride (so not horrible). Also, as seems to be the norm in Europe, the pool was not used by us although we wanted to - the hours are awful. Opens at 11am and closes at 8pm, so there’s never any time for a vacationing family who is out at 10am and back at 9pm to use it. :-(
Find the absolute centre of the old, medieval/roman town, and you’ll find lots of piazzas and pedestrian areas that you can let your kids run wild in. Also, there are ancient stairways that lead up from centre of town to the castle on the hilltop which are worth the effort.
