Average

Overall hotel was clean and lobby/bar/garden areas very nice. Rooms could use some updating with new decor and upgraded bathrooms. Centrally located in the city center and easy walk to many local sites, restaurants and bars.

Not Impressed

The location is excellent but the room was disappointing. It hadn’t been decorated in a long time and was more tired than I was after two days of meetings. We were offered breakfast at a reduced rate but it was still too expensive so we didn’t bother. There was no lift in the section we were staying in and we had to climb two floors with our luggage. When we checked out we were not informed that we would need a disc to get out of the car park- I had to leave the car at the barrier and walk back into the hotel to get one.

Expensive for what it was

Unfortunately I had some complaints about the hotel. 1. I rang the previous day to speak to a friend who was staying there and decided to confirm my booking at the same time. I had to accept a double room because there where no single rooms available but I was told my booking was for a double AND a single room. I was, in fact, given a single room and because of the difference in price, was given a free breakfast. This was a reasonable discount. 2. The mediocre breakfast where the service left a lot to be desired (slow), and the cups were dirty, was very expensive. 3. The room was quite shabby and there were biscuit crumbs on the floor. 4. There were no cups in the room for a cup of coffee, but plenty of coffee, milk and a kettle. 5. The plug (plunger type) in the wash basin did not come out leaving water in the bowl. Once I had realised this I used the tap in the bath, not very convenient when cleaning my teeth. 6. The reception area of the hotel was, in my opinion, very drab and uninviting. 7. In general the hotel was quite expensive for what it was. I did not complain to the management about the problems because I was only staying for one night but when I compare this to a hotel that I use regularly in the heart of The Lake District which is quite a bit cheaper for bed and a large breakfast, I have to say that I think that The Beverley Arms is nowhere near as good.

Beverley Minster. Some good local shops and restaurants. Lovely walks across Beverley Westwood
