Wonderful and Romantic in Charleston
This rehabbed mansion makes you feel like the 19th century south - warm and hospitable. The room we stayed in was contemporary and really comfortable. Enjoy the Tempurpedic mattresses. Short walk to where everything is happening. And Charleston is great!
Try Lea Forchette, a great French restaurant at 432 King Street. A fairly long walk, but doable; or take a pedi-cab.

Great historic inn
The John Rutledge Inn was just what we hoped to find. Its in a perfect location in the historic district and it has a history of its own, being the former home of one of the signers of the Constitution. It has lots of attractions - museum houses, restaurants, the market, the harbor - within walking distance. And the innkeeper and staff couldnt have been nicer. The breakfast was excellent, especially the fancy French toast.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
See the house museums in Charleston. The Aiken-Rhett is being preserved and has been left as found. The Calhoun Mansion is an unbelievable (and I mean it), restored Victorian. The Nathaniel Russell and Edmondston-Alston were also very good. We walked to them all, although the Aiken-Rhett is a hike from the JRI.
