Puebla Hotel Real Bargain

Stayed here in September 2009. Thanks to an e-mail coupon from Expedia.com I received 50% off the regular rate, so the room was a steal. That said we had to pay to use the coffee maker in the room. But I suspect the hotel was attempting to claw back a bit lost of the rate for the room. The room was small, but a very nice place to stay. Reasonable to good service. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, though look for bargain rates online.

Traveller's tip on nightlife

Nearby is a unique bar serving Pasitas, this is quite a unusual place and worth a look. No food is served just tiny inexpensive drinks. That are quite special.

The quirky member of the Camino Real family

This hotel, located in a former convent, gives a very good first impression. However, the place has idiosyncracies that impact guest comfort. Two problems in the bathroom are noteworthy. Firstly, there was no fan or ventilation of any kind, so it got pretty steamy. Secondly, it was very difficult to get in and out of the shower. I still have the bruises to show for it. Getting to the room was also problematic since the outdoor walkways were poorly covered and had no drainage, so after each rain, there were unavoidable puddles along the route to the rooms. In the bedroom, there was one small glass shelf between the double beds which contained the telephone, an alarm clock, and a badly wired light--not much room for anything else. These are all small issues, but the combined effect is not what I generally expect to find in a Camino Real hotel.

Not the best in Puebla

Our stay was horrible. Our room we booked wasn’t what we received. The promised free breakfast was not free and we were charged for it. We ordered room service for two adults and two children. We ordered it two hours before we needed to leave for a function. They brought one adults meal and one of the childrens. We asked several times about the other two and kept getting, there coming. They came as we were leaving. We didn’t eat any of the meals and went hungry for several hours because of their error. They charged us for all four meals even though they told us they wouldn’t and we didn’t even touch them. Their mini bar is pathetic and the tv’s don’t work in many of the rooms nor does the A/C. (We had several friends at the same hotel). We all were disappointed with the service, staff and rooms. Some of us had to move due to flooded rooms after the rain. It’s a shame as this hotel has potential to be beautiful and a nice place. Too bad no one is there to make it such.

Traveller's tip

Carry hand sanitizer with alcohol in it. Don’t drink the water or ice. Only bottled water. There are many things to see. Many small places to eat for what is equal to $2.00 US dollars and very good food. Taxi’s can be bargained with. Don’t just take the first rate, ask around, make a lower offer.
