very impressed with hotel and city

Hotel very clean, well maintained friendly helpful staff. Rooms clean and maintained.Help yourself buffet breakfast comprehensive and filling. Hotel perfectly sited 30 yards from north end of historical centre, all pedestrianised. Short walk route leads past barbican, old city walls down to very large square with clock tower, cloth hall and impressive church with hourly trumpeter. South from sqaure still no cars leads to Castle which is free entry so don’t pay for a guide as all explained. You only pay for the specific site entries within. We paid for catherdrel and audio guide, climb to bell tower for photos. Exit castle via caves to river to see fire dragon.Walk across bridge on LIPOWA street is Schindlers factory/museaum. DONT pay for Auschwitz trip as entry is free.Hire taxi for day and hire radio guide inside camp for full tour+2nd camp.English tour start 1100 finished 1500. Hired taxi for 6 again for Saltmine.Check start of English tour. Fantastic. Just off jewish 1/4 in Krakow tethered balloon provides views and photos. Best eating still cheap, pay more around square. All very pro English.

very busy in summer. we went 20.10.09 for 6 days, still busy but not crowded. warm t shirt weather. Misty rain for a couple of hours.

IDEAL LOCATION AND EXCELLENT PRICE

The hotel is just 2 minutes from the railway station which is 15 mins from the airport by train. lovely old (over 100 yrs) hotel that has been modernised but still retains it’s old charm. Xcellent buffet breakfast (ask for the scrambled eggs, great) Lovely beer garden at the rear of the hotel where we sat in the evening with our drinks. There is no lift and 3 floors high, after all day walking the city we just about made it to our room. Staff all speak English and very pleasant.Towels changed as you use them and room cleaned every day. 5 mins takes you to the Old Town Square and another 5 mins takes you to the Castle area .Drink prices in hotel were only slightly more expensive than the bars in the centre.

Take the train from the airport (15 mins) takes you right into the city right on the Old Town

Great location but noisy rooms at the front.

The hotel was ideally situated for a week-end break. Our room was adequate but, at times, exceptionally noisy due to its situation at the front of the building. It would have benefited from air conditioning, especially as this facility would have reduced the need to open windows at night. Fan provided but had no effect in a stuffy atmosphere. The breakfasts were excellent with a good choice of things to eat.Good beer garden. Staff friendly and helpful. Would use this hotel again but would ask for a different room location.

Traveller's tip on dining

Don’t stick to restaurants and bars in the main square. Krakow is safe - feel free to wander off the beaten track: you’ll find great places to eat and drink. Don’t be afraid to sample the local beers and food. If a restaurant is frequented by local people then it’s probably worth visiting!
