Great 5 star hotel not so close to the action though

This is a lovely 5* hotel, with good service, enormous beds, all the fixtures & fittings you’d expect. We got a great deal because we stayed in the middle of August, when Lisbon is pretty sleepy. I don’t think I’d stay here again, simply because to get into the Latin Quarter or downtown it’s about 15-20 minutes on the bus or a cab.

Buy a "Viva Lisboa" card for very cheap travel on public transport and spend the time to understanding the bus maps!

OK, but not great

The pros: this hotel is new and well located. The rooms are large by European standards, there is 24-hr room service, and the staff are very responsive. The cons: the beds are hard (even to those of us who like firm mattresses), the towels are thin, the cost for internet service in the room is high (6 euros for one hour--but free internet is available in the lobby), the cost to use the fitness center is high, and most oddly, the rooms don’t contain irons or ironing boards, nor will the hotel provide them on request. We were told this was for "security reasons." I’m not sure even McGiver could damage a hotel with an iron. I’d stay there again, but it could ahve been such a nicer experience...

Traveller's tip on dining

Try dinner at Sacramento. The food is amazing, the decor interesting, and the service the best we experienced during our entire time in Lisbon
