Southwark break

Hotel has an excellent location, within a short walk of the tube/mainline station, Tate Modern, London Eye, St Pauls, Borough Market and a good selection of places to eat. Accomodation was good and the hotel was quiet, breakfast was OK but with a limited choice. Being on the sixth floor we had good views but spent a considerable time waiting for the lift.

Clean, friendly and convenient

Just back from a 5 night trip to London with my teenage daughter. This was a great, good value, central hotel to use as a base for exploring. Staff were friendly and efficient - breakfast was good and plentiful (but a more high volume toaster would have been good) - lots to see and do on the South Bank just a few mins walk from the hotel and it was in a good location for Tubes and trains. Room was a reasonable size. We were at the back of the hotel so not much night-time noise. Beds were comfortable and linen clean. Shower-room was clean and everything worked as it should. Only complaints were lack of wardrobe and cupboards(open rack to hang clothes on) and it would have been nice to have a fridge to store water etc in. But, other than that fine. I have stayed in higher star rating hotels in London which were not half as nice.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Buy yourself an Oyster travel card on the plane to London and travel like a local! There is a lot you can do and see in London for nothing - all the Art Galleries, Museums etc are free People watching along the South Bank on summer evenings is also a great way to pass the time. Don’t miss the entertainers in Convent Garden and some of the stall holders in the Portobello Road market have fascinating stories to tell.

small but handy and clean

When staying in London, Southwark is a convenient and low-cost option, if slightly creepy as a place to wander on your own late at night (it’s pretty deserted). This hotel offers good rates and is very clean. The rooms are small, but nicely decorated. There is a good cooling/heat system so although it is close to some train tracks, you’ll never hear them. The hotel also has very solid windows, which you won’t find anywhere, and is one a pretty quiet part of the street. So you’re far better off here, close to the Underground and some nice tourist areas such as the Wheel and Tower of London, then in some dump in the West End for more money.

Traveller's tip for business travellers

As a 46-year-old American businesswoman I was quite comfortable here staying on my own -- not something I would say about all less expensive places in London! Note that it’s quite convenient for links to City Airport in particular.
