Great City, shame about the hotel.
The positives first: Large car park and convenient adjacent bus stops into and out of Galway city. And now the negatives. Overall the hotel is tired with outdated & dreary decor in need of complete refurbishment. Our room (428) was of a good size but followed this trend. However, the mattress on the double bed was revealed (in the morning) to be filthy and very badly stained and should have been burned!! The bar (or is it a restaurant?) features a reasonable menu which is much cheaper than the restaurant proper. However, it also features tired furnishings and a TV which booms out constantly. The restaurant is overpriced and poorly served (white wine ordered & red wine served) while a supposedly delicate filo parcel of monkfish & salmon was dished up with a plate of winter veg (cabbage, swede & carrot). My guess is that they dont vary the vegetable serving from one year to another. The chowder was good. We didnt bother with dessert. There appears to be just one PIN machine (at reception) which makes billing/charging quaint in other areas of the hotel. First & last visit for us Im afraid.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Get on the bus into the city (three euro twenty cents return) for a huge variety of dining and entertainment opportunities.

Nice Hotel on outskirts of town
We rented a car for our trip so parking was a must. For the price, location and parking availability, this is a great place to stay while in Galway. We drove to town at night, parking wasnt too difficult, especially by Irish standards. Otherwise its probably a 20 minute walk if you move quickly.

Basic Hotel
While this hotel is convenient to get to, it is still a fair walk on a good day from the city center. And as many of us know good days are hard to come by in Ireland in general. The hotel was not as clean as i would like and the decor somewhat shabby. I thought it was overpriced for what it was and dont think id be revisiting. We stayed on the 4th floor and throughout our stay it sounded like there was a herd of elephants staying on the floor above us. Very very noisy...
