Noise and heat were problems

The hotel provided basic comfort, an excellent breakfast (for an extra 12 euro per person) and a superb location. Unfortunately the room was extremely hot. We visited between seasons, and hotel management was unable to turn the air conditioning on. To keep the room cool at night, we had to keep the windows open (which made sleep without earplugs problematic because of considerable street noise).

In the heart of Barcelona

The Hotel Regencia Colon was perfect for a stay in Barcelona. Let’s start with the positives: Because the hotel is located right in the middle of the Gothic Quarter my wife and I were able to walk to many of the area attractions: Cathedrals, Las Ramblas, Museo Picasso, the pier, etc. Even the Barcelona Tourist Office was a close walk. We only took a cab twice during our stay. The service at the hotel was excellent too. All the staff were very polite and were very helpful when fulfilling our needs. When we needed to find where something in the city was they gave us the info. When we needed a cab they arranged for one to pick us up. Even when my wife’s luggage got lost at the airport they made sure our luggage was delivered to our room. When ever we left the hotel we would have to check our key in at the front desk. This is to prevent your room key being lost or stolen while you are out. I thought this might be a nuisance but it was nice to not have to worry about the key while walking around town. The only negative would be the rooms, which is minor. The rooms were always clean and included the usual amenities (flat screen tv, fridge, safe), however, instead of getting a queen size bed the hotel pushed to twin beds together. Also, for those looking for stylish rooms may be dissappointed. The rooms are nice but very simple. In summary: Pros: Location!, Service - Cons: unstylish rooms, beds.

When you’re shopping with some of the smaller vendors don’t be afraid to haggle. My wife and I were some times able to buy things for half the original asking price.

Excellent place to stay

Hotel staff very helpful and informative. Only thing missing in the room was a kettle - would have been nice to be able to make a cuppa.

Take care when using taxis - we got a taxi from the hotel to the train station, the driver made out he didn’t speak English and took us to the furthest station even though the taxi had been booked to a nearer station.
