Noise and long way from downtown
We had trouble with the room, the ceiling of the room started to leak on the the 3 day. They did not hurry to the room to check it out. When they came they offered us another room to move into, but then it stop leaking and we just said that we would see what would happen with the leaking . We did not get any offering/discount or nothing for this terrible happening. The next 2 days we woke up early both the days in the morning around 6, when the next room was having a party and singing loudly , There was a lot of teenagers in the hotel with lot of noise. This has never happened to us before on any hotel we have stayed in, and no apology from the hotel! Or nothing! I will never stay there again!

Good quality and value
This was a comfortable and pleasant hotel with good size rooms and good fittings. We did not choose the breakfast and so I am unable to comment on this (there are facilities for making coffee and tea in the room). The location is a 20-25 minute tram ride from the centre but the service is frequent and the stop is near the hotel. [We preferred this to being close to the centre since prices in central Amsterdam are high for sometimes poor accommodation.] If you buy a 72-hour travel pass, then you can move around Amsterdam very easily. The surrounding neighbourhood is pleasant suburban and its distinctive feature is the large number of friendly Turkish bakeries and cafes that stay open late. We would certainly go back to this hotel

Good experience
I enjoyed my 2-night stay in the Blue Square Hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly at all times and provided good information about public transport. The hotel is well served by public transport. The room was quite adequate and spacious as a single room, even luxurious, and had everything I needed, including safe for valuables and kettle for coffee-making. Two points where the hotel could improve were (1) the shower head did not have a hose connection (was a metal fixture), however the head was adjustable, and (2) the internet workstations in the lobby didnt work for me, but these things did not upset my stay.
There is a shopping mall nearby and lots of small shops. However, everything is closed on Sunday. Its not a great area for eating out, so be prepared to hop on a tram or bus.
