Hotel is next to 24-hour building site
Hotel is fine, staff are friendly but the major building work going on all around is a major drawback. Noise continues all night and can be clearly heard in the bedrooms. Internal noise-proofing is also inadequate. I could hear every word the people in the next room were saying. My request for a non-smoking room was not respected and the room had a lingering stench of stale smoke which was transmitted to my jacket after three days in the wardrobe.

Great design, located at the new financial district but overpriced
My husband and I stayed at the W Doha for 2 nights on our way back to Europe from the Maldives. We picked this hotel because it opened in March and seemed to have a very interesting design. We were quite right about that. The lobby is spacious and very beautiful as are the rooms and bathrooms. There is constant music playing at the lobby (sometimes a bit too loud) and complimentary wireless internet. The room had nice amenities, including a Nespresso coffee machine, but the TV is a nightmare. It tries to give a super modern feel but just ends up being slow, complicated and with very limited channel choices. There is an interesting selection of restaurants, with the coffee shop being opened from early morning to midnight, non-stop. The food is quite over-priced, as everything in this hotel. The staff is nice but not particularly efficient. We had quite a shock when we tried leaving the hotel to go a shopping mall because the staff told us that our only option was to take one of the hotel jaguars as they did not work with local taxis. When we insisted that the price for the jaguar was unreasonably high for a quick shopping trip, they told us the most they could do was to allow us to use their phone to call a taxi company, although they could not provide any numbers nor make the call themselves. We ended up walking 5 minutes to the nearest mall and taking a taxi from there to the other, nicer shopping mall 30 minutes away.
