Convenient and Clean

This is my second stay at the Green Palace and I’m once again quite pleased. The rooms are kept quite clean. The room itself is small, but comfortable (It’s a standard business-sized room for Tokyo), and I appreciate that the hotel buffet is affordable and good (dinner runs around 2500 yen, and breakfast is something like 1200 yen). Additionally, the hotel offers a rental laptop service for about 1000 yen a night, which was very nice for me, since I was there on business and didn’t bring my own. Probably the best part of the hotel is the location! It’s literally just around the corner from Exit 6 of the Kojimachi station of the Yurakucho line. Not much around the immediate area as it’s a business district but with a subway so close, it’s quite easy to get just about anywhere in Tokyo without too much trouble.

To get there from Tokyo station, you just has to take the JR yamanote line from tokyo station to yurakucho station (1 stop), switch to the Yurakucho subway line, ride it to Kojimachi station, and leave the station from Exit 6. From there, just turn around (you’ll see a 7-11 on your right) and take an immediate left. From there it’s less than a minute’s walk and on your left...easy-peasy! At first I was daunted by taking the subway around Tokyo but it’s really quite simple once you get used to it.

quite okay, businesslike

I know Tokyo quite well and therefore could easily find my way from Green Palace. Still, it is not that well located vs the main subway and train lines. For the rest, the rooms are clean and offer all necessities. Like in so many Japanese hotels, things are efficient but one rarely feels really welcome as guest, warmth is not in ample supply. And why are Japanese newspapers provided courtesy hotel, but no English papers to be found at all ? Overall I was content and I may stay there again, but it would be nice if there was a bit less "Japanese vs. gaijin" in the general atmosphere. The surrounding neighbourhood is rather boring, no great vistas there !

Japan is always a gorgeous place to be, but if possible one should try to visit in spring or during the fall. Public transportation is marvelously developed and not that hard to figure out. To connect with locals, don’t hesitate to go to one of the many places where office people go for a bite before going home, usually close to stations.

A bit out of the way, but still a wonderful stay - Great Service!

Yes, Japanese hotel rooms are typically small in comparison to western style hotels. If you already have experienced this, or know to expect it, then the room size will not be a shock. The local area is very quiet at night, so noise will not be a problem. The rooms come with free LAN internet and you can obtain WiFi connection in the Lobby. I left an electric device in the room. Once I arrived back in the U.S. and then sent them an email to please check the room for it. They emailed me back about 4 or 5 hours later and told me that they had found it. They went out of their way to send it back to my house in the U.S., using Express Mail, for free. To me, that says a lot about their service and care for the people staying with them. Oh, and they also helped point me in the direction of a currency exchange location when I ran out of Yen during my stay. These helpful acts left me with a great impression. When I return to Tokyo, I will stay with them again! If you want a hotel with great service, stay here. But I will admit, no large attractions in the area. If you want to be in the center of Tokyo, look for something in Shibuya, Shinjuku, or near Tokyo Tower; but be warned about noise, traffic (car and foot), and a lot of bright lights. Tokyo Green Palace is cheap, clean, and quiet, a block away from Kojimachi station to then get to wherever you need to go, and most of all, has wonderful attendants at the front desk who offer great service and are very attentive.

Traveller's tip

When arriving, use Exit 5 out of Kojimachi metro station; just look to the left for the 7-11. The street that you need to walk down is directly in front of the 7-11. Just cross the street and walk down a block or so, and you will see Tokyo Green Palace on your left. At night, Exits 5 and 6 close around 11PM, so you will have to use Exits 1 or 2.
