Nice hotel but a little far out
The hotel was clean and the staff knowledgeable, however, the location was a little far out from the ferry port of stresa. And this is coming from two thirtysomethings - if we were older we may not have managed the walk so well. in fact when you arrive you will realise that it is not even considered the resort of stresa. Breakfast was quite poor and most mornings we resorted to eating only bread and jam.
Quite close to the station however if you are interested in doint the Maggiore Express.

very convenient location
The hotel is close to the railway station and the main streets and restuarants are a short walk away (15 mins) along the lakeside. Staff were very helpful and services were without fault. I would recommend it.
Travelling from Milan central station was cheap (€4.95 one way) and convenient for Stresa and the Hotel Royal is convenient and very good value in Stresa.

No air conditioning
Desk staff were helpful on arrival but a bit offhand when I pointed out that the air conditioning in the room was broken. It had been broken for a couple of days, we were told, before we arrived. They arranged to have a fan sent up to the room. The air conditioning was not fixed by the time we left after 4 nights. Staff looking after breakfast were reasonably attentive. Public areas were spacious. Fair ammount of parking.
Traveller's tip on dining
La Botte restaurant in the old part of town is traditional with cheery staff and good food.
