peace and quiet amongst the chaos in Plermo

Lovely comfortable hotel in a good position in Palermo, within easy walking distance from one of the airport bus stops ath Poiteamo theatre. Very happy with the huge room, nicely decorated and big bathroom. Beds were turned down at night and sweets put on the pillows. room quiet considering the pace of life in the strrets of Palermo outside. Easy walking distance to most of the main sites. Good choice at the breakfast buffet. Only small bar and no restaurant at hotel but this did not prove to be a problem.

visit thel Norman palace and Palatine chapel with its amazing mosaics

Very Disappointing

We arrived at the hotel and were put in one of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Desperate for a shower we found out to our dismay that there was no hot water. An inquiry at the front desk supplied the information that the water was broken but someone was going to fix it - no apology. This was meant to be the grand culmination of our trip - our one night stay at a one star hotel nearby in Palermo a few weeks before was a privelege compared to this hotel. Breakfast was also tasteless and disappointing and the horrible tinny, tasteless music pumped through the whole hotel was depressing. By no means a five star hotel.

Go to the Hotel Orientale - it is beautiful, clean, friendly and has a much better atmosphere - and is a lot cheaper!

An Ideal place to stay while in Palermo

The GHW is a small hotel situated in a central location to Palermo. If you wish to take a ferry to Ustica, visit the Orta Botanica, Cathedral, or Palace you have only at most a 30 minute amble for all. Shopping and eating? again you are a short walk away from emptying your wallet on fashions and food. The hotel itself is classically decorated and adds to the air of art and culture of Palermo. The staff are polite and helpful. Breakfast is a classic continental affair, cured meats, croissants, juices, fruits, cereals etc. Don’t expect a full English! If you want anything hot you will have to make do with the scrambled egg and bacon. Still, I have no complaints with what was on offer and it will set you up nicely. Your room, try and ensure you get a street facing one. The rooms at the back of the hotel although appointed the same have a poor view with little light. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Don’t be surprised if you sleep in if you have the shutters and curtains closed. Its dark!. If you hire a car, parking near the hotel is non issue in the evening. There are plenty of blue bays, if you need parking during the day then you will have a challenge, but thats Palermo for you. You can use the hotel service of valet parking, it will cost you almost 20 euros though. Overall, a decent hotel, value for money and worth staying in if you need a base for exploring the wonderful Palermo and Sicily as a whole. I recommend it if you have a few extra pennies to spend.
