Brilliant Hotel
I found the Double Happiness hotel one of the nicest hotels I stayed at while in China. Be prepared it is down an alley way right in the Hutong, but that means you get to see how the local people really live. The staff are really helpful and the rooms really nice and very clean. The whole atmosphere is lovely.
Learn some Chinese before you go.

Lovely authentic chinese courtyard hotel
A well located hotel,although the street it is on isn’t that appealing to those not looking to see the real China. Very clean and well presented. Beds were comfortable but quite hard (Usual in this country evidently!). Breakfast buffet provided a real taste of China but also had toast etc! Staff were very helpful and wrote down the names of places in the chinese characters for us to show taxi drivers to enable us to get around. I’d stay again.
Use the underground system. A station is located 10 mins walk from the hotel, it’s clean and easy to use with signs and announcements in Chinese and English. Be ready for the security checks and remember that the tickets expire on the day they are bought.

Stay in the hutongs
To really experience Beijing, a stay in a hutong hotel has to beat a plastic chain hotel for style and fun. The Double Happiness has an authentic location in the house of an old Chinese scholar, with colourful silks and lanterns, attentive friendly staff, a beautiful peaceful courtyard, but also that essential for 21st century travellers - a modern, wonderfully appointed bathroom. Don’t miss it!
