Lovely hotel, close to sites of ancient Rome, but walkable to all other sites

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. We had a lovely standard room which was larger than expected at the back of the hotel. We had requested this as previous reviewers had said it was quite noisy at the front of the hotel, and seeing the cobble stone road and the many cars travelling down it, I can quite believe it. The front desk staff were able to answer any questions we had and gave us maps and information. There was lots of choice for breakfast and we were more than happy - cereals, yogurts, bacon, egg, pastries, cheese, ham, fruit etc. The garden was lovely and we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks with complimentary nibbles. We didn’t eat at the hotel as it seemed very expensive so ventured into Travestere for dinner where there are lots of typical Roman restaurants. But ladies - don’t were high heels, the cobbles are hard to walk on! The hotel is situated by the Forum so is good for ancient Rome though further from most of the other sites. We did plenty of walking, to the Vatican, and further to the Piazza del Popolo (start of the Angels and Demons Tour - brilliant!) but you need comfortable shoes! But a taxi for two (which the hotel called for us) to the Vatican was just under 10 euros which we did one evening. Enjoy!

The best way to see Rome is on foot - we walked from The Forum to the Piazza del Popolo - there are always things to look at. But take comfy shoes, the cobbles can be hard on your feet. Must sees: Vatican (Basillica, Museums and crypts), The Pantheon, Castel des Angles, The Colosseum, Forum , the Palatino, Piazza de Navona. Must do’s: For Dan Brown fans - The Official Angels and Demons Tour. Take comfortable shoes!

What all Hotels should be like

My husband and I recently stayed at the Kolbe Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff spoke English and were all extremely helpful. They helped us to book tours, arrange taxis, made sure we had a breakfast box if we were leaving the hotel early in the morning and even let us use their computer to print off our boarding passes. The rooms were extremely clean and lovely and bright. You were not woken by the usual banging of hotel doors it was an extremely peaceful and wonderful place to stay. I read a lot of reviews on hotels before I decided to book this one and I was not disappointed. I would recommend this hotel to all. We had a wonderful time in Rome and the Hotel was perfect.

Where do I start - you must see everything you can. The colossium is awesome, likewise Vatican City. Be prepared for a lot of walking and take comfortable shoes. Keep shoulders and legs covered in Churches (men and women).

Excellent hotel & location

Excellent, friendly service and all staff on reception and in bar spoke very good English. Good quality buffet breakfast, good decor and spotlessly clean. Located very close to Forum and 10-20 min walk from centre. Quiet location for Rome. Lovely peaceful garden area. Would definitely go again.

Traveller's tip on dining

Head across the river (10-15 min walk)to the Trastevere area for traditional, good quality dining at reasonable prices.
