Simple, no frills centre of town hotel.
Hotel Henri IV is small, and a bit more like a b&b than a hotel, but it sits in the middle of town. It’s not spectacular, and it can be noisy, but in terms of a convenient place to sleep as part of an onwards journey, it did the job. The steps are steep, so people who would struggle with these should check as to whether there is a lift.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
All the sights of La Rochelle, including all the museums and eateries are within easy walking distance. I would strongly recommend the aquarium.

Noisy downtown hotel
If you want to be in the middle of everything, this is the place. People partying down below, interesting nevertheless. You see how people live in a big downtown city! Small clean bedroom,with petit dejeuner, which was nice.

Don’t bring your big suitcase, no elevator there!

Very central hotel
Very central hotel but not for someone on their own. No bar and no reception full time so felt very alone. It would be nice to have a drink in the evening and meet fellow travellors.
