Best option in StLucia for a romantic getaway (no for families)
When we planned our vacation in Sta Lucia, we decided that we did not want to take any resort package such Sandals or any of those. We rented a car and stayed at the Ginger Lily hotel. That was the best thing we could have done. If you want to explore this beautiful island, do not stay at an all-inclusive compound. The hotel was GREAT. There are 11 rooms in a courtyard, which has a swimming pool in the middle. There are tropical gardens all around, the room was huge. The hotel is located across from the access to the main beach in the island. You can walk to the beach and leave all your valuables at the hotel. This hotel is a perfect spot for a romantic escape, not so much for families with kids. If you are a young adventurous couple, the Ginger Lily is your best bet. Even though we enjoyed our time in st Lucia, we were surprised about the attitude of the islanders. They don’t stand out for being as warm as the inhabitants of other places in the Caribbean where I have been before. There is no customer service culture. Restaurants are overpriced, you pay New York city prices and the service is not great at all. We suggest that you do a small grocery shopping and have nice romantic breakfast or snacks at the porch of your room at the hotel (all rooms have porches with hammocks.

Location and size were just right at the Ginger Lily.
Virgie, Natasha and Cynthia/Cheryl (?) were all very pleasant and constantly asked about our needs. The evening of our arrival, one of the air conditioners had a leak. As promised, it was promptly fixed the following morning. Daily maid service was conscientious and sensitive to our needs for beach and bath towels. We were amply supplied with each. We recommended it to relatives who live on the island.

Exactly what we wanted...
We stayed for our honeymoon in April. We specifically chose Rodney Bay and particularly The Ginger Lily because we didnt want to be on a resort. We wanted to eat, drink and visit where we wanted and not feel stuck on a large, impersonal hotel complex. The hotel was full, but very quiet and tranquil. We usually had the pool to ourselves. I think this place attracts similar people so even when there were children around, they were always well-behaved. In addition, Reduit Beach was literally across the road - so convenient and so nice. The staff are so friendly too. Just all made for a really plesant, relaxing stay. Exactly what we wanted. Would definitely stay there again.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Eating: Spinnakers on the beach has great food and good value. Does a fantastic breakfast. Restaurants quite expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Try Charthouse or Big Chef for good steaks/fish. Try Pizza Pizza when you want a cheap night in. Avoid Razamataz Indian - Awful. Best? Buzz - 50 yds up the road. Sublime! Beaches: Reduit Beach nice, but gets busy when the Cruise Ships are in. Be polite but firm with the hawkers. Pidgeon Island nicer and quieter, worth the taxi and entrance fee.
