Average
The Gansevoort South looked much better on pictures than in reality. The overall decor looked a little bit tacky, and the building itself slightly resembled a hospital. The pool was nice, but unfortunately because of some architectural mistake, the towering hotel overcast a shadow over most lounge beds - an inconvenience for people who actually want to tan! The hotel beach front is nice, but word of advice - dont order food here! They bring it in takeaway plastic containers, and honestly tasted like they had cooked it 3 days ago. The room decor is ok - slightly too "cold" for my liking. On the topic of cold, the hotel had some issues with temperatures - when we first walked into the room it literally felt like the icebar. On the plus side, the rooms were REALLY spacious - we booked a normal double room, and the room was HUGE. We had 2 large beds, and plenty of space. The bathroom was also quite large, so that was a big plus. The room was relatively clean and kept. The rooftop pool was nice - at least tanning-wise, but again the crowd was slightly tacky and cheap-looking. Overall, I dont think I would go back to this hotel although I have to admit that the size of the rooms was a big plus.

Awesome Time!
Very attentive staff. 2 great pools, with one on the roof offering incredible views of Miami. Rooftop bar at night is a cool hangout place. Louis nightclub located next door is a must. Would return without hesitation.

Terrible service and food lets this place down - dont go
The rooms are great, the infinity pool is beautiful, the service at the pool is excellent. But unless all you care about is style over substance (and you can overlook the bits of the hotel that look like a building site), do not go here. The STK restaurant is not open. This is not mentioned in the guest book, and the website boasts of the sexy New York steakhouse. This is disingenuous, or downright deceptive. We had room service instead. My crab dip was not a dip but a dry, tasteless gratin. They used dried pasta for my main instead of fresh. I ate neither. We were not brought a spoon for dessert. Of the 20-odd bottles of red wine on the menu, only one was in stock. At $180, it was an utter rip-off. We ate it on our horrid balcony which had a rough concrete floor, no light, and rusty cheap furniture. Other problems? The awful reception staff. One broke off from our query to chat up a pair of girls! The family pool is windy and there is no shade. We (a honeymoon couple) were put in a corridor with 20 partygoers who kept us awake both nights. The TV is monstrously slow to change channels. No coffee machine and nowhere to drink coffee from a china cup; no ice machine and it is never brought up at turndown service as promised We were taken to the airport by a driver who was so high, he kept falling asleep. It was terrifying. This is not the fault of the hotel, but I do wonder that more care is not taken in using a reputable taxi company with safe drivers.
Traveller's tip on dining
Spiga was a lovely Italian restaurant with superlative food. The waiter was charming and chatty, and the pasta superb. I had the crab ravioli special which was sensationally fresh, clean and tasty. Great bread too.
