Cairo Ramses Hilton

Good all round experience

First time in Ramses Hilton but latest of many times in Cairo. Impressed with the hotel. Speed and politeness of check in, overall general attitude of staff throughout the hotel - polite, helpful without being overbearing. Excellent breakfast and the food in the only in house restaurant I tried, the Indian, was superb. Upon check out was surprised to find EGP 230 phone call, apparently made to a local Vodaphone cell phone. It was removed after I disputed it but this took time which is precious when wanting to get to the airport in morning rush hour! Anyway it was resolved politely and I have no real complaint. Location excellent and very easy to get hotel car, white taxi or local taxi with help of bell hop - customers choice and hotel cars are not unduly pushed. Will certainly stay again.

I would recommend using the "white" taxis - they are metred and can save disputes HOWEVER make sure it gets turned on when you enter otherwise at your destination you will be asked to pay what you think is reasonable and thus you xwill inevitably overpay being used to taxis closer to home.

Don’t check-in after midnight!

I have stayed at the Hilton Ramses several times on business (4) in the last 8 months, and have to say the check-in staff are the worst of any Hilton hotel! I arrived from the airport tired at 12.55am in the morning, and had to wait 40 minutes to check-in, while the two check-in constanly let local private hires drivers jump the que to check their customers in first (so a bigger tip could be gained and obviously shared with the staff, as they all knew each others names) When I complained, I was told they were drivers of the hotel and had priority!!!! This I didn’t believe and complained the next day and was rewarded with an upgrade, but no apology or explanation. (funny how there English suddenly gets worst) My check-out was 5am and yep, the same two people were on the desk and kept me waiting again, it was only when the taxi driver said we would be late for the plane that they checked me out! Total disgrace! I only use this hotel because it close to my work, but I have to go back next month and will NOT be staying at this hotel.

Traveller's tip for business travellers

Don’t purchase the Internet Passes, they charge 24 Sterling Pounds for 24 hours which start as soon as you had logged on and cannot be used in stages!
