Very French
The hotel Château De Lazenay - Résidence Hôtel De Charme was very chic. It was rated as a 2 star hotel but could easily have been hu=igher. The furnishings were very French and the room was very large and clean. Very basic but comfortable. It even had a small cooking area with fridge but no utensils apart from a couple of pans - but useful if you needed it. Bathroom was lovely but shower head needed fixing as when the shower was switched on water sprayed everywhere - literally!! We spent quite a while soaking it all up with towels so not the best, but when we mentioned it to the staff the following day they were pretty good. Though you could open large windows in the room to get air in because the hotel was by a large lake the were trillions of mosquitoes - pretty massive they were as well so take mossy killer else you’ll have to keep the windows shut and will literally melt away in your sleep as it’s SO hot - trust me we know!!!! No air con or fans, which was a shame as if they had one of these it would have been a much pleasanter stay. Breakfast was lovely but you do have to pay extra. We payed 8 euros each and it was pretty good. All in all I would definitley say that it was a beautiful place to stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful. 8 out of 10
Don’t go on a bank holiday - not a lot is open!!

Not expensive but very good
Bourges is almost exactly halfway betwenn Calais and the Languedoc Coast so Chateau de Lazenay is ideally located for a stop-over. This is a small chateau that has been converted into a hotel offering comfortable rooms with basic cooking facilities. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean and well designed. Note that the hotel does not have a full restaurant although there is a very good one within a short drive. We have stayed at Chateau de Lazenay twice in the last three years and would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

An interesting option
I selected the chateau as I felt I wanted a different experience. I arrived Sunday afternoon after traveling overnight from the US and driving three more hours to Bourges. It was easy to find with GPS. The door was locked and it took a bit of shouting to russle up someone, but one I did everthing worked fine. It was comfortable and very clean. I’d certainly stay here again. The value for the money is quite good.
