Chicagos hidden treasure
The Wooded Isle Apartments is a pleasant place to stay in a relatively quiet Chicago neighborhood near the University of Chicago and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Wooded Isle is a refurbished apartment building that was probably new 60 - 70 years ago. The furnishings are pleasant and serviceable as well as comfortable. The ambiance reminded me of my grandparents home when I was a child. The full kitchen has all of the main appliances missing only an automatic dishwasher. The queen-sized bed was comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom is right out of the fifties; serviceable, but not glamorous. The linens are of high quality and housekeeping did their thing every other day. There is cable TV with many channels and compact fluorescent bulbs in most of the light fixtures. Parking, an issue in Chicago, was readily available and free. We enjoyed our stay at the Wooded Isle and will stay there on subsequent trips to the Windy City.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Parking your vehicle in Chicago is expensive. Quite often, the parking ramps will have a fixed fee: Twenty minutes or twenty hours for the same fee. Find a place to park and take the train or the bus.
