Real comfort

Our stay at the Atrium was everything we could have asked for. The rooms were spacious and clean and the staff just couldn’t do enough for us. Yes, as some others have mentioned, the view is over a main street, but there is nothing they can do about that! Breakfasts are lovely, as is eating in the restaurant - though very pricey! Reception will give you advice on buses to catch, sights to see and which beaches to visit. The supermarket round the back (Joker) is a blessing and there are a couple of cheaper places to grab a slice of pizza from for lunch. Restaurants are sometimes pretty tricky to hunt out as the Croatians I saw seemed to spend more time drinking coffee in bars than eating. But if you look, there are some nice places round the back streets by the harbour. I recommend the fish as it is always fresh and absolutely delicious! If you’re stuck for places to eat, we asked taxi drivers to take us to places they recommended and they always hit the spot.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

There is a bus that travels from the airport into the centre of Split for 30 kuna pp. It normally leaves about 1.5 hours after the planes has landed but ask at ’information’ in Arrivals. This beats a taxi which we did on the way back and cost us about 260 kuna!!! There is a local bus which will take you to the airport (number 73) if you leave enough time.

Croatian comfort

The Atrium Hotel is very new, modern and comfortable. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful and do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Our room was large and spotlessly clean, with a well-appointed bathroom ( his’ and her’s sinks !) and it was very quiet. The swimming pool was tiny but great to cool down in at the end of another scorching Split day.The breakfast buffet was extensive and appetising- exactly what we needed to set us up for the day- and the evening meals were fantastic. Service was excellent and not intrusive and the waiting staff certainly knew their stuff.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

Take a trip to the island of Scholte(i may have spelt that wrongly!)for the Olive tour.Groups meet at a cafe by the entrance to Diocletian’s Palace at 8.45am each day, then take the ferry to the island. You tour around the olive groves, the little factory where the olives are processed( you can taste the oils) and then have lunch. After that, you can see bee hives, a winery or go to a little cove and swim.It is a lovely day, particularly if you’re into food and wine and well-worth the 350 K cost.
