A decent hotel if you’re traveling on a budget

I had bigger expectations for this hotel after reviewing its web site. Overall, this is an average hotel. It’s in a good location - safe, plenty of restaurants/shops/bars just outside the front door - it’s comparatively affordable, the rooms are clean, and they offer free WIFI in the rooms. However, don’t expect much beyond the basics. The fitness center is terrible. 2 treadmills (one of which didn’t work), a stationary bike from 1985, and a rack of dumbbells up to 50 lbs. That’s it. No benches or anything, so if you plan on lifting weights, plan on doing your exercises standing up. The pool is minuscule. The mattress in my room was rock hard, but I think that this might be common in Mexico City. The breakfast buffet was decent and the staff was very helpful. This place is far from the Ritz, but if you’re on a budget and looking for a clean place to sleep, it’s not a bad choice.

Traveller's tip on dining

Ask the concierge for directions to a restaurant called Kababi - it’s a short walk from the hotel and very good.

The AC nor the heat was on. Internet was down for 5 days. However, it is a great location and cheap!

zona rosa has had its day

The Hotel staff were fine but not particularly dynamic in their assistance. The room was very clean and furnished fine for a cheap hotel but the bed very hard and terrible lighting (no lamps). If you want nothing more than somewhere to sleep and get a good price it maybe worth it as the room was quiet. The pool is nothing more than a plunge pool and the gym a joke (1 broken bike and 1 running machine). It wouldnt take much to put a coffee machine and a lamp in each room. PS. Zona Rosa is a dump with nothing more than tacky bars and fast food chains. Stay somewhere else like Historic, Roma or Condesa.

Traveller's tip on dining

One of the best restaurants is on Liverpool 2 mins from hotel. Called La Refuega (I think). Really deserves its good write up in Esquire and NY Times.
