An oasis away from the metropolis of Catania

We eventually found Castello D’Urso & a great find it was. We were staying just the one night before flying out of Catania. The setting was stunning, Mount Etna could be easily seen whilst relaxing by a more than adequate pool. Our 17month old enjoyed running around the ample gardens. The hosts were very hospitable, but learn some italian or french - this is a general rule for Sicily. Would definately stay here again should we return to Sicily in the near future. Do get directions, as there is no sign dispalyed outside of the gates to identify it - it’s number 15.

Great hotel best if have own transport

This is an unexpectedly great hotel; it has an enormous, immaculate swimming pool, and sits in large, elegant grounds, next to a genuine castle. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Our room was large, very elegantly furnished and with a great bathroom and highly effective air conditioning. Our only reservation was that if you don’t have your own transport, you are heavily dependent on the taxi service provided by the hotel owners to get to and from Catania - about 10/15 mins depending on traffic: this quickly mounts up to add to your bill. It’s also a great service, however - our ferry from Malta was over four hours late, but the hotel owner met us at the ferry port at about 1.30am, all smiles and drove us to the hotel. Yes it was 20 euros, but any taxi would have been far more and more importantly, there weren’t any around at that time anyway!

An oasis

I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the hotel. The rooms were spotlessly clean all of the time and the owners were very helpful. The pool is huge and rarely used it seemed. The dogs look dangerous, but are as soft as anything. Breakfast is basic, but OK. The only comment on the rooms is that they could do with a little sound proofing. But, a warning... you need a car as there are NO restaurants, shops or bars close by. The closest beaches - that you pay to access - cant be walked to (unless you want to walk down a dual carraigeway that has no paths or hard shoulder!).
