Bring an alarm clock

This is basically a youth hostel offering single rooms with twin beds as an extra. If you are just looking for a place to stay overnight, without frills, and if you don’t mind the tiny size of the rooms, this is a fine place to stay. The breakfast is better that at budget motels in the U.S. The neighborhood is cut by various thoroughfares and somewhat seedy--originally working-class, destroyed in WW II, and then rebuilt for mixed use with temporary shacks, etc. The hotel building itself is one of the pre-war "survivors" and nicely remodeled. Bring an alarm clock: they have no wake-up calls!

Very clean - great location

Stayed in a 4 bed room with friends, shower and toilet etc was very clean we were very impressed. Great location walking distance of the main station and underground. The Reeperbahn was fab fun every bar we went into was different with live bands and music all for free. We went to the edge of the Reeperbahn area where a bit studenty and not too seedy but enjoyed having a look round the sex shops (good fun). The fair was also on at the Dome and was great nothing like the fairs we get back here in the UK. Make sure you put a trip to Hamburg on your list. People in Hamburg were very friendly.

Traveller's tip on nightlife

You can buy a Hamburger card which gives you all day travel on all transport for up to 5 people and gives you various discounts in Restaurants shops etc for 11 euros a day -

Too loud all night long

Needed to stay over for a night, cheap&clean, heating was working which was good, but it was too loud with doors banging and people laughing nearly all night long
