Great location!
We had a lovely time in Carcassonne. The b&b was easy to find - aided by the friendly & helpful bus driver on the trip form the airport. We arrived just as the paras were leaving training and singing their way back to the barracks. (They could be heard in the distance every day - like our own choir!) This proved a good omen as my partner is ex-army. We were in the Carthage room - decor with a nod to Tunisia - large, airy, clean and comfortable. Bottles of water were in the room on our arrival, which was a nice touch. Wardrobe facilities are limited to a rail, but for a 3 night stay with hand luggage, its fine. There’ s plenty of drawer space if needed. The bathroom was through a concertina door, so maybe not good for your first trip away! However the only sound issue we found was the noise from the bathroom next door. It’s a great location - a couple of minutes from the main shopping street, v.quiet residential area and you can see Chateau Comtal from outside the house. If you walk down the road you reach a cute bridge to the Quai, and it’s a short walk to the Pont Vieux and the Cité. Breakfast was good – bread, croissant & coffee - limited choice but good quality. There is a lovely but lively Labrador in the garden, but she is not allowed in the house so dont let this put you off if you are afraid of dogs. It’s a great base for a short break, and much nicer than staying in an impersonal chain. Quirky, charming and friendly.
Pichets of wine are great value. Stay away from spirits - unless you want to blow your budget! If the weather is nice make your own sandwiches for lunch and find somewhere nice to have a picnic. The you can spend at dinner - although there are places which do a set menu.

Excellent Friendly Comfortable
This little gem is located between the old and new part of the city. The owners are most welcoming and helpful. It is clearly evident that all guests love this place, as we witnessed from talking to other guests and listening to them talking to the owners. The house is going through different stages of refurbishment and the windows are being replaced this year. I would have no hesitation in visiting this house again, and welcome the opportunity to visit again in 2010. We ate at Chez Fred near the train station and would recommend it as a place to eat. Carcassonne is a fantastic place, it is much more impressive than I had imagined. The old part of the city is really impressive and Maison Sans Frontière Bed and Breakfast is located only minutes away.
Visit the old part of the town. , have lunch or a drink here, allow half a day at least. Definitely take a trip on the Canal Midi, and watch how the different levels of the canal are manouvered.

Very Bohemian
We stayed one night here returning from Montpellier. We were given the Sri Lankan room and were disappointed. There was only one curtain on the window which left huge gaps on either side so the light was flooded with light. Also theres a unusual curtain and ill-fitting sliding door entrance to the ensuite and the toilet flush was so loud you couldnt possibly flush it during the night for fear of waking the whole house up. The beds werent very comfortable and the pillows were lumpy. On the upside, the couple running the B&B are very nice and hospitable and they kindly drove us back to the airport, per the complimentary airport transfer advertised. Its also very near to the old town and theres a short cut to the castle which has many restaurants inside.
