Reminds us of Europe--very, very charming.

Not too big and not too small, with all the right details in place.... the beds and linens were perfectly comfortable. The office staff was genuinely helpful.

Tired motel, but convenient location

It all started with no hairdryer in the room. OK that’s happened before, so I pick up the phone to call the front desk. Phone doesn’t work. So I get dressed and walk to the office. Receptionist acts surprised (every roomshould have a hairdryer!) and hands me one. I go back to the room and plug it in - or try to. English plug. So I get dressed and walk to the office. Hahaha - we joked. English plug. Now she’s not sure she has another spare dryer but hunts around. Ah, there’s one in the cupboard, but she’s not sure it works. She hands it to me and says to go back to my room and try it. So I ask her why she doesn’t try it right here. Hahaha - we joked. Surprise - it doesn’t work. And she throws her hands up as if to say - well nothing I can do now!! Meanwhile the phone rings and another guest (the lucky one with a phone that works) is enquiring, (I gather, as I listen to the conversation) about a hairdryer. She tells the guest to call back in about 10 minutes - she might have one then. Then I ask her if there are any vacant rooms. She goes to look. There are. So off we go to find a hair dryer that works. We do. I go back to my room and try it and it works for 10 seconds. That pretty much typified the state of the Carmel Lodge. It’s OK...but...you need to pack your patience...oh, and a hairdryer.

OK Hotel

The hotel would be fine except, they let you know when you get there that you have to pay for parking. It’s motel style, so you’re just parked inside the courtyard. We were on the 1st floor next to the stair case. We could hear people coming down the stairs from 6 A.M on to go to the office which was right next to our room, to get their morning coffee. They’d stand outside the lobby and talk. Therefore we had no sleep. The complimentary breakfast consisted of bagels and cream cheese and real coffee or you could make your own tea. There were apples and oranges. There was no butter or decaf coffee or anything lighter than the bagels. They did have packs of oatmeal, but nothing to put them in.
