Be willing to climb and remember Berlin summers can be hot
I was initially given a room on a noisy street. Since the hotel has no air conditioning I had to keep the window open because it was very hot and sticky and the street noise was quite bothesome. I asked to change rooms and the only room available was a walkup on the 4th floor (5 stories up). No one was available to help with my suitcases (I don’t think they ever are) and I tried but after getting in a complete sweat I decided to abandon this effort and stay in my noisy and somewhat cooler room. The room on the 4th floor was even hotter and stuffier than my original noisy room. I ended up stuffing tissue in my ears in order to sleep. The location of the hotel is in a safe neighborhood near an S bahn station, but with few restaurants nearby. So I ended up with mixed feelings.

Completely unique Russian Hotel in Old East Berlin
Nice quiet side street - sidewalk re-contruction is a temporary problem for the neighborhood. Not far from train and metro stations. The lobby was just as the shown - ornate with old Russian photos. Our suite was unexpectedly modern with towering ceilings, sleek new furnishings and draperies, a huge flat screen tv, long connecting hallway, elegantly tiled bathroom.

Interestingly renovated older hotel
Interesting older style hotel. Rooms comfortable with plenty of space for bags and shopping! Didn’t like the 2 single duvets on a double bed though. Fantastic breakfast which included blinis and smoked salmon and caviar! Close to centre of city but in a quiet area, so nights were peaceful We shall return
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Do see The Checkpoint Charlie museum, very moving. Take the city tour bus if you don’t have time to see everything on foot. Very good value and you can hop on and hop off
