We were with the understanding that the hotel was rated as a 4 star hotel. It is, but not in the usual sense.400 years ago it was a carpenters shop that over the years converted to a hotel that has small but adequate rooms,great location,a beautiful patio,great dining room, wonderful food and super friendly and helpful staff.The only downsides were the area was noisy on the week ends and my new slippers suggested that the floor had not been washed for several days.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Stayed in Switzerland for 8 days -our Swiss rail pass got us everywhere Geneva,Lugano,Chur,Zurich and into museums for free. The trains are great!

Hofgarten Hotel
This hotel is best described as a little quirky. Rather strange works of art etc. However the service was great, staff really good and helpful. A cery convenient location. The food is Veggie and very good.

Great experience
Overall, it’s been a great experience. Lots of pluses and can’t think of any significant minuses. Hotel has very convient location: 10 minutes walk to historical city center and railway station. Fantastic breakfast, cosy room with great view. Very helpful English speaking personnel. Internet is also available free of charge. High quality vegetarian restaurant in the beautiful garden is especially impressive, even for none vegetarians like me:)
