Ideal holiday hotel
This hotel is in an excellent location, just a couple of minutes from the Forbidden City in one direction, and a couple of minutes from the major shopping area of Wnagfujin in the other. The nearest subway station is at Tiannamen Square, about 10 minutes walk away. The hotel doesnt look much from the outside, but inside is clean, comfortable, and everything you need for a holiday. The staff were helpful and did everything we asked of. The room itsefl was fine, comfortable and with everything you would expect, including free wi-fi. Not the worlds biggest room - but not a problem in any way at all. We didnt have a desk, so I guess if you were on business that may be a problem. I would definately go back here if I were in Beijing again.
We went in October and the city was not nearly as cold as we thought, in fact the weather was great. Plus at this time of the year you not only avoid the stifling heat of the summer, but also get the most wondeful autumnel colours on the trees in and around the Great Wall and nearby Ming tombs.

Good but not great...
This hotel was in a great location (near Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and the night food market.) and check-in was pretty smooth, but the customer service was somewhat lacking. I live in Asia and have travelled extensively around Asia; so I am fully aware that the customer service that Im used to in the U.S. is not present in this part of the world. However, certain things - like not delivering my phone messages once they discovered that the phone in my room was not working - were even below what I expect for Asia. There was one concierge who was very helpful, but the others were not at all and it wasnt just the language barrier, though that was part of it...I tried to work around that but in the end, I was better off getting cabs or finding locations on my own. Aside from that, it was a cute hotel and Id consider staying there again.
