excellent hotel

our stay at the Millenium was not our first. Every time it is consistent, the people are very nice and it is a great hotel.

Not impressed

Noone greeted us, or helped us with luggage upon arriving. Receptionists and some hotel men were just standing there looking at us (a petite girl and 2 seniors) struggling. This is also the 1st time in my life staying in a hotel that doesn’t provide us shampoo or toothpaste. Internet is supposed to cost $9.95/ 24 hours based on the agreement on their website, but you will be charged $12.95. We won’t come back.

Will definately return

This was our second trip to the Big Apple and first time staying at the UN Plaza. We arrived before check-in time but were seen straight away and given rooms on the 39th floor with views of the Chrysler, Met Life and Empire State Building. The pool was fantastic and for those taking an early morning dip there was the bonus view of the sun rising over Long Island and Queens. Situated only a few blocks from Grand Central it was nice to start the day with a short walk before catching the subway to our days destination. If you’re going for a 5 day stay then its well worth getting the Metro Card and familiarising yourself with the various subway routes. They’re far easier to use than anything we have in the UK. The surrounding area offered a number of amenities with restaurants, bars, clubs and all day cafés. The Amish Market was only a block away and has a variety of foodstuffs. Room service was a little expensive but there was an ample supply of Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc. from where you could get some light refreshments. The staff were all friendly, helpful and informative which always helps. Our only complaint was that on one or two days there was maintenance being carried out on an upper floor which was rather noisy. WE didn’t complain because we weren’t staying in long and given the view we had we didn’t want to risk being moved. We will definitely try to book this when we next return to NYC.

Make sure when leaving the airport (JFK or Newark) you go to the taxi stand and get an agreed price to your hotel. Do not use private drivers who may approach you. We did and whilst we weren’t ripped off we did pay more than we should have because we were told all our luggage wouldn’t fit in a taxi. It fit on the way back!! Most hotels will arrange for taxis or limos for your return journey if you ask so there’s no need to hail one on the street.
